| The LEED for Homes program has been under development for several years. The pilot demonstration phase of LEED for homes was rolled out in 12 local markets in August 2005. The pilot phase will continue through June 2007, at which time the program will be rolled out on a national scale. In preparation for this expansion, USGBC plans to develop a LEED education program, select several highly qualified LEED for homes faculty to deliver these trainings, and select approximately 20 new LEED for Homes Providers to deliver the program in new local markets. |

Development Team |
| |
LEED for homes was developed by a team of approximately 100 national experts on green home building. Each of these experts has direct practical experience in design and construction of new green homes. For example, the LEED for homes committee includes key representatives of six of the largest green home building initiatives in the country. In addition, six of our 12 Pilot LEED for Homes Providers are responsible for the most successful green home building programs in the country. Several of the other Providers run the most successful home energy rating businesses in the country. |

Development Process |
| |
Like all LEED rating systems, LEED for homes was developed via USGBC's open, consensus-based development process. The LEED for homes Committee, a group of USGBC member volunteers carefully selected to be representative of the entire home building industry, has primary responsibility for the development and ongoing refinement of the rating system. In addition to the pilot testing phase, the rating system will undergo a public comment period, which is an opportunity for all interested parties and stakeholders to provide feedback on the draft rating system prior to its release. The final step in the process is a ballot of the rating system by USGBC's full membership. |

Builder Reviewers |
| |
Prior to the start of the LEED for homes pilot, the Rating System was reviewed by a large pool of volunteer builders from all across the country. The pilot rating system was revised based on their input. Since the start of the pilot in August 2005, 135 builders have registered to help to test the Pilot LEED for homes rating system. These builders have generated over 300 questions related to clarifications of the requirements in specific new home applications. These questions have led to over 200 refinements in the pilot rating system. |

Over the last two months, those 135 builders have committed to building over 6,300 LEED Homes. Since the pilot remains open until the national release in June 2007, these participation numbers are likely to double. To date, over 220 LEED homes have been completed and rated, with many more completions expected in the near future. |
