Benjamin Moore Paints : clean air formula paint for environmentally sensitive places

EcoSpec® latex paint by Benjamin Moore is a professional quality, premium interior 100% acrylic system designed for both residential and commercial spaces where environmental concerns about air quality during application are a priority.

EcoSpec® paint is formulated to address the needs of the architectural and interior design communities, facility and maintenance specifiers, and professional contractors when specifying and applying clean air formula products are necessary. The EcoSpec® paint formula contains no solvents that release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air. Both oil-based and conventional latex paints contain solvents that allow for the paint to be applied at a normal rate without drying rapidly. It is the solvents which give off the "painterly smell" associated with painting. EcoSpec® paint has virtually no odor during application, has a very short open time, and dries rapidly. This rapid dry allows for a space to be painted and put back into use within two hours after the job is completed. No residual paint smells exists.

EcoSpec® paint offers a complete clean air formula interior paint system with a primer and three top coat finishes, flat, eggshell and semi-gloss. It is offered in white and over 1000 custom colors.

Benjamin Moore & Co., a Berkshire Hathaway company, was founded in 1883. One of the country’s leading manufacturers of premium quality paints, stains, and related products, the Benjamin Moore® brand is sold through a network of authorized, independent retailers.

Fleetwood : Fleetwood has been manufacturing aluminum windows and doors for more than four decades. They are proud of their 46-year history as a California based company. They believe in helping support the American dream of success by relying upon God and this country’s ingenuity and work ethic, which has made the United States of America the greatest country on the planet.

In a time when many are making products in foreign countries, Fleetwood remains true to its essential purpose as an American company, employing American workers making quality products.

In fulfilling that purpose they are driven to innovate, not imitate. They operate under one main vision; "if we create better products the market will demand them." In recent years they have revolutionized the marketplace with proprietary designs and developing major components such as rollers and latches, one of which is being patented.

Fleetwood is taking the industry lead in providing responsible products that exceed global needs and desires. It chooses to create with aluminum for its many benefits. For one, it is an abundant resource (8% of the earth’s crust). Coupled with glass, Fleetwood windows and doors are almost entirely recyclable. Additionally, their windows rate high in Life Cycle Assessment and last decades longer than most other window materials leaving a small ecological footprint.

In Project 7ten, Fleetwood supplied revolutionary energy efficiency called "thermal break". In this technology a narrow bridge of polyurethane separates each aluminum shape. This "bridge" keeps heat and cold from crossing over, thus keeping the home cool during the summer and warm during the colder months.

Fleetwood was proud to be a sponsor of Project 7ten.

Ford Motor Company : Ford Motor Company has made sustainability a cornerstone of its long-term strategic business practice. The company is guided by a belief that the strongest and most profitable companies in the future will be the ones that strive for sustainable use of environmental and social capital.

Ford has demonstrated leadership by acknowledging and acting on climate change and its impact on economic, environmental and social systems. Ford plays a key role in defining the solutions that are required to meet those challenges.

One such example can be found at Ford’s Rouge River manufacturing complex in Dearborn, Michigan. One of America’s largest manufacturing facilities, built by Henry Ford in 1917, the “Rouge” was overhauled by leading environmental, development and manufacturing specialists and reopened in 2004. The advanced environmental concepts being applied and tested at the facility include: the worlds largest ecologically inspired living roof, encompassing about 500,000 square feet, that dramatically affects the local area watershed by holding several inches of rainwater; the use of renewable energy sources such as solar cells and fuel cells; a unique process which uses natural plants throughout the grounds to rid the soil of contaminants; building swales that are shallow green ditches seeded with indigenous plants to improve storm-water management; and the planting of more than 1,500 trees and thousands of other plantings to attract songbirds and create habitats.

As the official automotive partner of Project 7ten, Ford understands the value of engaging partners who share a mutual understanding of the challenges and opportunities the world faces with regard to sustainability. While continuing to improve its environmental performance, Ford is committed to establishing broad dialogue among policy makers, advocacy groups, consumers, investors, business partners and employees to help guide its vision and strategy.

Steelcase : Steelcase and the SDP Partnership Company’s commitment to the environment were established over 100 years ago. Steelcase and its companies have shown how they stand behind our future and our children’s future. It is evident in the strides that this corporation and its companies have made in respect to their facilities, processes & products. The Global Headquarters of Steelcase in Grand Rapids, Michigan was constructed in 1983 and follows many of the fundamental design principals that are now a part of the LEED program criteria including state of the art energy management, maximized use of natural daylight & access to the outdoors. Also, the wood products plant at this facility was the first LEED manufacturing facility in the world under the LEED Pilot Program. In addition, their plants throughout the world – including Canada, France & Germany have modified their manufacturing processes to the point that they have reduced their water consumption by 80%, reduced their wastes by 80% or recycle their wastes by this like percentage. Steelcase also offers its Workplace Services Group which administers a variety of furniture buy back programs ranging from recycling to reuse. The Design Partnership Companies also participate in this extensive program. This commitment from Steelcase is definitely seen in their overall product. They have a tremendous list of products that have a "Green Story". The Answer product line is the first panel system to be considered Cradle-To-Cradle. In fact, there are approximately 15 products within the Steelcase family of products that are Cradle-To-Cradle Certified including Montage, Answer, Pathways Privacy Wall, Think, Leap and Siento.

The Design Partnership Companies (Brayton International, Designtex, Metro, Polyvision, Vecta and Werndl) follow this environmental commitment through Lean Manufacturing to reduce material wastes and so much more. Products and processes are developed and promoted in an environmentally responsible manner. It is an on-going endeavor involving the reduction, recycling and reuse of materials. This requires balancing the needs of the community and customers as well as the needs of future generations. Increasingly, our activities are approached with an eye towards "sustainability", that is - meeting the needs of the present without compromising the welfare of the future. The direction the Design Partnership Lines are headed is so that most or all products which are offered are SCS (Scientific Certification System) products or Greenguard Certified products. Metro, for example offers SCS Certified products in that of Topo, TeamWork and Detour. Additionally, Metro utilizes their water-borne finish for wood. This finish is known as the "Clarity" finish which sets a new standard by reducing VOC emissions to less than 1/5 of that allowed by Bay Area requirements. What a remarkable achievement for protecting the environment in which we live. In relation to these wood practices, Metro also participates in Future Forests where trees are planted to renew our natural resources. Additionally, Metro is recognized by StopWaste.org for excellent environmental performance and commitment to sustainable business practices – commitment to recycling and waste management. The Design Partnership Companies also strive to use VOC-free coatings that protect clean air by eliminating emissions of ozone-depleting chemical substances. Another one of the Partnership Companies - Vecta has developed Eco Facts on their products. This documentation displays relevant and responsible product information with regard to environmental factors for LEED for Commercial Interiors; showing applicable technical points available through LEED. Finally, Polyvision is the first and only company to receive International Cradle-To-Cradle Silver Certification from McDonough Braungart Design. Environmental Ceramicsteel surface is what is utilized on all boards featuring e3 environmentally ceramic steel surfacing: no VOC’s, 99% recyclable and much more.

As the world changes, so must our thinking. The ecology of today’s changing world gives us cause to rethink our sense of responsibility and commitment to environmental stewardship for generations to come. Steelcase and the Design Partnership Companies believe that in this century, our thinking – and our practices must continue to move toward that which renews, preserves and sustains the world we all share.
